I-1_DR is a non-LTR retrotransposon that belongs to the I clade. This element is characterized by 13-bp target site duplications. It can be an active element. It encodes a 417-aa gag protein (positions 3-1253) and a 1250-aa pol protein (positions 1238-4987). These proteins are most close to corresponding proteins encoded by other I-like elements. The gag protein is a putative RNA/DNA binding protein (it includes zinc-fingers), and the polyprotein is composed of AP endonuclease (aa positions 9-222), reverse transcriptase (positions 500-730) and RNaseH (positions 968-1095) domains.
