PROTOP (DF0001684)
Autonomous DNA transposon; a molecular fossil.
Description
A brief description of the entry. Suggestions for modification to this description can be submitted using the adjacent pencil icon.
The PROTOP consensus sequence encodes PROTOPp, a 855-aa P-like transposase (positions 1221-3785, just one ORF). PROTOP has perfect 31 bp-long TIRs and its copies are flanked by 7-bp target site duplications generated upon their integration in the genome. All P-like transposases, including PROTOPp (positions 31-89), contain a conserved ~60-aa zinc finger motif (smart00692, DM3) at their N-terminus. The DM3 motif is located downstream of the previously reported zinc finger motif.

Hit Statistics
Number of matches to this model that meet the "Gathering" threshold and more stringent "Trusted" threshold. For each threshold, two numbers are shown: (1) the number of matches to this model after removing redundant hits to other models ("non-redundant"), and (2) the total number of matches above threshold, including those with better scoring matches to other models ("all hits").
The model is 4480 positions long. The average length of non-redundant hits to the model is 462.2. This table shows the number of hits above score thresholds:
Species | Gathering | Trusted | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
non-redundant | all hits | non-redundant | all hits | |
Drosophila melanogaster | 262 | 4206 | 231 | 2693 |
