INVADER4 has populated the D.melanogaster genome recently since its proviral copies are almost identical and flanked by identical or 1% divergent LTRs. It was transposed in a nonautonomous mode. It encodes only the gag-like DNA binding protein protein. INVADER4 generates 4 bp target site duplications upon its integration into the drosophila genome. INVADER4 belongs to the INVADER group of GYPSY-like retroviruses, together with MICROPIA, BLASTOPIA, MDG3, INVADER1, INVADER2 and INVADER3.
