INVADER1 may be an active retroelement since some of its proviral copies are almost identical and flanked by identical LTRs. INVADER1 generates 4 bp target site duplications upon its integration into the drosophila genome. INVADER1_I encodes gag, protease (peptidase A2), integrase and RT. INVADER1 belongs to the INVADER group of GYPSY-like transposons together with MICROPIA, BLASTOPIA, MDG3, INVADER2, INVADER3 and so on.
