Description

GYPSY11_I is an internal portion of the GYPSY11 endogenous retrovirus. Its long terminal repeat is GYPSY11_LTR. GYPSY11_I is flanked by 7% divergent LTRs. Therefore, the age of GYPSY11 can be estimated as ~4 million years old. Open reading frames, which originally encoded gag, pol and env, are corrupted by mutations that cannot be reversed because of a small number of available copies of GYPSY11. GYPSY11 belongs to the TABOR group of GYPSY-like endogenous retroviruses.
