Description

GYPSY10_I is an internal portion of the GYPSY10 endogenous retrovirus. Its long terminal repeat is GYPSY10_LTR. GYPSY10_I is flanked by 7% divergent LTRs. Therefore, the age of GYPSY10 can be estimated as ~4 million years old. Open reading frames, which originally encoded gag, pol and env, are corrupted by mutations that cannot be reversed because of a small number of available copies of GYPSY10.
