DMCR1A belongs to the CR1 superfamily of non-LTR retrotransposons. It has two ORFs. ORF1 encodes a putative nucleic acid binding protein which includes the zinc-finger domain and is distantly similar to a protein encoded the non-LTR retrotransposon T1_AG in African malaria mosquito. ORF2 encodes reverse transcriptase close to RT from T1_AG and CR1.
