COPIA2_DM has been multiplied recently since its proviral copies are ~98% identical to the consensus sequence and are flanked by 99% identical LTRs. There are about 50 copies of COPIA2_DM in the genome; 5-bp target site duplications. COPIA2_DM is most close to the DM1731 retrotransposon. It encodes 1334-a polyprotein. A ~280aa N-terminal portion is a gag-like sequence. There is one stop codon disrupting the polyprotein. It's unlikely that the stop codon was present in an active retrovirus. There are only two proviral copies of this particular region available in GenBank, they both have the stop codon.
