Composite retroelement: (SINE-R + VNTR + Alu), SVA_A subfamily
A brief description of the entry. Suggestions for modification to this description can be submitted using the adjacent pencil icon.
SVA retroelements are hominid-specific chimeras, some of which are still active in the human population. These SINEs are a unique combination of features. The 5' end begins with hexamer repeats, followed by two Alus in reverse orientation. The center is comprised of a number of VNTR regions (Variable Number of Tandem Repeats) that may span a few hundred basepairs, up to 2000bp. The 3' end is formed by a portion of a HERVK LTR (the SINE-R feature) .

Number of matches to this model that meet the "Gathering" threshold and more stringent "Trusted" threshold. For each threshold, two numbers are shown: (1) the number of matches to this model after removing redundant hits to other models ("non-redundant"), and (2) the total number of matches above threshold, including those with better scoring matches to other models ("all hits").
The model is 1387 positions long. The average length of non-redundant hits to the model is 310.1. This table shows the number of hits above score thresholds:
|non-redundant||all hits||non-redundant||all hits|
