Description

50-100 copies present in mammals and birds. MER133B is a nearly perfect palindrome, suggesting that it was derived from a from a non-autonomous DNA transposon. Note that MER stands for MEdium Reiteration frequency interspersed repeat. As such, MERs as a group are a grab bag of DNA transposons and retrotransposons.
