Consensus inverted from initial report. Originally incorrectly classified as a hAT-like DNA transposon. TSD: TA. 30 bp TIRs. HSTC2 is a prototype reconstruction of an autonomous transposon involved in propagation of MER104. MER stands for MEdium Reiteration frequency interspersed repeat. As such, MERs as a group are a grab bag of DNA transposons and retrotransposons.
